Taiwan only had it's democratic system since the death of Jiang Jingguo ex- KMT leader in 1989, he was the one formerly declared the end of martial law in Taiwan in 1987 ( I think was June), so if you interested please Google how many people was executed by KMT from 1949-1987, and the ratio to their small population is not too far behind CCP. famously the association of Henry Liu in California 1984, a writer and journalist, was a vocal critic of the KMT. not even CCP has done anything like that, would you agree on that point? of course the Western media will never discuss those things.
after 1987, Taiwan has made remarkable progress on its democratic system till DPP took over the office the second time in 2016, few years after that, there is not much democracy left in them. it became a one woman party. Judging by the latest local election DPP is on its way out very soon.
