There maybe family run coal companies with old equipment but I have not information on that as its not who I look at. But they have economies of scale zero costs for mine rehabilitation etc so production costs are not that far apart.
They also have a price cap in place but still print huge amounts of cash. Yes the quality is better here but that is not much of a concern when your burning billions tonnes a year.
