It's more so a test from God to see where our heart is. He has said you cannot serve 2 masters (mammon and God).

The million dollar question is, why can you not give 10% of money that God has allowed you to earn (aka its his not yours), meanwhile Jesus has actually died for you and given 100% of his life. You must also remember Jesus instructed the rich young ruler to give EVERYTHING he had. Also in acts we see church goers pile EVERYTHING they own together, not just 10%.

It's sad to hear you're now athiest, but I want to unpack that if I may.

You mention becoming athiest because your church wanted 10% tithe.

But to become athiest is to outright deny God. But you have highlighted that you have an instructional issue with the church, not that you deny Gods existence, which puts your soul in a more dangerous place.

Maybe the church you go to is not healthy and is more financially demanding, I am blessed to have a Pastor that cares more about my soul than my tithe. That being, when I am closer to God, I am more generous.
