Speculative long positions in crude futures, or bets prices will rise, outnumbered short positions by a record 96,147 contracts on Nymex in the week to July 3, according to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission data. Net longs rose by 28,983 contracts, or 43 percent, from a week earlier.
``There simply is too much bullish enthusiasm out there to dent the current rally,'' Edward Meir, an analyst at Man Financial Ltd. in Darien, Connecticut, wrote in a report.
