Tawana Resources NL (TAW) informed results from the processing of 1,023 cubic metres (m3) of alluvial material recovered from the headwaters of the Feeder Channel, Tawana Alluvial Diamond Project. The Company has made an encouraging start to the large (9,000m3 or 20,000 tonnes) bulk sample of gravels from the Feeder Channel. Processing of gravels through the Company’s onsite Dense Media Separation plant started in early November. During this period the entry point of diamonds from the nearby Finsch kimberlite into the Feeder Channel was established. Drilling also identified the location of significant river system within the Feeder Channel. This river system has been interpreted as a Rift Valley - a split in the earths crust. The significance of this Rift is that it provides the right conditions for the heavily potholed and irregular river course; this is what we see today. It is an optimal structure for the transportation of diamonds away from the Finsch Mine and for diamond entrapment. This Rift also provided the right geological setting for kimberlite emplacement, the Finsch kimberlite erupted along this Rift some 150 million years ago.
