Governments all over the 1st world have decided that EV's are the way to go and I believe it's unstoppable
Like you I reckon it's all BS and the driving experience of a super fast golf buggy compared to a stick shift V8 is woeful but try buying a new stick shift anything let alone a V8 and you'll find your options are very limited.
Times change and those who swim against the tide often drown.
