Bougainville readies for autonomous government
The Papua New Guinea province of Bougainville takes a historic step this morning with the swearing in of its new autonomous government.
A dawn flag raising will mark the start of a day of celebrations that will include the inauguration of the new Bougainville government and the first sittings of its new House of Representatives with 40 MPs.
The new government will progressively takeover functions of the national Government, except for foreign affairs and defence.
Newly-elected president Joseph Kabui says finding the money to support his new autonomous government will be his first priority.
THAT WILL BE BY REOPENING THE PANGUNA MINE ;-))
Mr Kabui is expected to name his new cabinet early next week.
