Task force been set up to try and help the west coast after 200 loose there jobs following My Lyell mine closure. The area really needs these mines to go ahead, and quickly.
In summary..
An economic task force has been set up to help Tasmania's struggling west coast after hundreds of workers lost their jobs in the closure of the Mount Lyell copper mine. The State Government announced it would establish a West Coast Economic Working Group to help the region recover from job losses.
Other options being fast tracked ........two mining developments planned for the West Coast - the Avebury nickel mine and Venture Minerals' Riley Creek iron ore venture - were no comfort to mine workers.
The council's chief executive, Jeremy Kouw, said neither would commence this year.
