To wit, check your placement in the order queue. For a bullish stock the art of trading on the open is to position your bid sufficiently high that you are closest to the top of the queue for your bid price (place it early!). Look at the volume of shares that are being sold less than what you are bidding - and compare with people bidding higher than you - this is your wriggle room. As soon as it runs out you have to up your bid price if you want your order filled.

Its pretty funny - often it gets to 9:59 am and I am madly cutting and pasting into excel to make sure my order gets filled. To make matters worse all of the crazy sheet happens from 9:50 to 9:59.
