The deep hole was to test the depth of the mineralised system.
It actually succeeded in that it found the the right rock, fracture and indicators to suggest that gold does extend down to depth.
Putting it another way it didn't disprove the existence of gold at depth - which leaves the possibility open.
Reality is being a poddy system - there was only ever going to be a 30% chance of actually hitting a pod with a single drill hole.
the next best thing is to find the right rock, fractures and indicators and the deep hole did that.
