Hi US10, I've read through at least 50-100 papers in full on the cortisol hypothesis as part of my research into Actinogen and I can tell you that the research isn't as clear as it's made out to be.
1. People on glucocorticoid treatment haven't been shown to be at higher risk of Alzheimer's disease
2. People with Cushing's disease (high endogenous cortisol) also haven't been shown to be at higher risk of Alzheimer's disease
3. Cognitive changes due to steroid therapy or Cushing's disease are distinctly different to changes due to Alzheimer's disease - for one, they are quickly reversible, secondly, there's no evidence of Amyloid plaques or tau hyperphosphorylation in cortisol-related cognitive decline.
Would love answers to the above. I too am excited about science, but let's not get ahead of ourselves and let's try to see both sides of the story.
