Maybe its the broker that has been mandated to raise equity for the stock that is doing the pre-raising stock price ramp.
(PS. Secretly, I hope to heck it isn't because I can imagine the conspiracy theorists firing up with great gusto if it turns out to, in fact, be the case. There'll be much baying for my blood.)
