You can hedge base metals (on the LME) but not iron ore , the closest thing you can have is contracts however the big 3/4 in their infinite wisdom decided to go from contracts to selling iron ore at spot price on the ocean trade around 4 years ago since then ore prices have dropped from $150 to 40 as each cut the others throats by increasing prodn .
