A PROJECT tipped to create 1200 jobs in the region is one step closer to fruition, according to its project manager.
Gladstone Iron and Steel project manager Ross Johnson yesterday said a framework agreement was reached this week between Boulder Steel and Arabia for Business Strategies (ABS) arranging all debt funding for the Gladstone Iron and Steel Project.
Its very good news, Mr Johnson said.
It will bring greater surety to the people of Gladstone that the project will go ahead.
Mr Johnson said the projects Environmental Impact Statement was almost complete, and was expected to be released around March next year, when it will be open to public scrutiny.
The project manager said that he had met with Gladstone Ports Corporation yesterday morning also to discuss port operations in relation to the project.
It is not as significant a milestone, but still a major step, he said.
Mr Johnson said the project would create 700 permanent jobs during stage one, which will increase to 1200 during stage two.
