Yes, but I don't see how that results in a drop in gold price if the gold price is entirely determined on the Comex.
Maybe as Sydney suggested, a change in real interest rates affects gold price through a change in the dollar index (or the yen to usd?). Do Hedge funds have HFT algorithms set to buy gold futures contracts whenever a decrease in the Dollar Index is detected? Something like that? I was hoping that others had already come up with theories. A good start would be to establish whether everybody believes that the gold price is set through futures markets Comex (& LBMA?)
If gold price is determined in any other way it would be interesting to know about this.
Appreciate your thoughts on this question, and agree that it would be good to hear from others
