DHP - if you go back to the 2011 report written by Manfred Marx, he stated that the Cacuilo River was mapped as fault controlled and that the fault system provided conduits for the kimberlites. From that, my assumption is that the Cacuilo River was formed prior to the emplacement of the kimberlites, hence the old (paleo) and new river systems are closely related. That said, I do concede that recent studies suggests that some of the gravels in the Cacuilo valley are newer than first thought, so the suggestion there is that at least one geological event, like an uplift or depression (graben) occurred since the formation of the old river beds, causing the gravels to be reworked. Either that or the secondary erosion of some kimberlites.
One thing is for certain, Lulo is one big jigsaw puzzle, but I believe the pieces are stating to fall into place!
