Just announced EVM HOA with Apollo Development (new company I believe, need to find out more about them) for solar updraft towers in Texas to add (clean) power and stability(!) to the Texas grid. Each tower will be 200 MW and it looks like there are three towers planned as there are three sites in planning phase ("El Paso, Laredo and the Permian Basin"). EVM will retain a free carried 20% stake in Apollo, which cannot be diluted to below 15%. The capital cost per tower is about $800 million, which is cheap for something that can produce 200 MW of energy at 60% capacity (not far off coal with is usually about 80% capacity factor). The company also gets a "non-refundable US$2,000,000 development fee (US$400,000 received), and an annual royalty and technology fee from future Solar Tower developments in Texas". This looks like an excellent deal for the company.
