Hungarian President Ader signs nuclear energy bill into law
FEBRUARY 10, 2014 BY RICHARD FIELD
Hungarian President Janos Ader announced this morning that there were no constitutional grounds for his refusing to sign into law the bill passed on Thursday ratifying the framework agreement of 14 January awarding a EUR 12 billion no-bid contract to the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation to build two 1.200 megawatt reactors at the Paks nuclear power plant.
In response to requests that the decision be the subject of a national referendum, Ader stated that the Hungarian constitution does not allow referendums in the case of obligations arising from international contracts.
