Need to restrict coal pollution to barest minimum, says Goyal

Tokyo : Speaking at the Institute of Energy Economics Japan (IEEJ) here on Wednesday Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal said energy is one of the important aspects for accessing the quality of human life, but it’s important to restrict coal pollution (emission) to the barest minimum so that clean coal technology becomes more relevant.

Goyal, who is on a three-day visit to Japan, said “We have asked the Japanese Government to also join the International solar alliance.”

“We are bringing together the Indian and Japanese industries through a series of roundtables started this morning, and we have already concluded three roundtables today (on Wednesday) – first roundtable on clean coal, and technologies around clean coal; second on energy efficiency and energy audit; and third on more efficiency in the refining sector,” he said.

“In the course of my visit, we will have more roundtables on renewal energy, grid integration and safety, and other related subjects in the energy sector,” he added.

“After the Paris Declaration, under Cop 21, as the world moves towards greater consciousness for environmental concerns, both Japan and India have a very major role to play – Japan, because of its technological importance; and India, because it’s a fastest growing economy in the world,” said Goyal.

Goyal’s visit to Japan puts accent on renewable energy, clean coal and energy efficiency during the Strategic Energy Dialogue between the two nations. (ANI)
