Landslide Isolates Hundreds of Families in East Java May 22, 2011
Trenggalek, East Java. A landslide isolated around 600 families at Mojo and Salam areas, Nglebo village, Suruh sub district, Trenggalek District, East Java on Friday.
The landslide and flash flood blocked roads and damaged 14 houses and a bridge, the head of Nglebo village Nurwahyudi said on Saturday.
"So far, mud and rocks have not been removed. Local volunteers are busy building an emergency bridge to replace the collapsed one," he said.
Relief aid was distributed by volunteers who had to walk to reach the remote and isolated villages.
Incessant heavy rains have triggered the landslide and flash floods in eight sub districts, namely Trenggalek, Karangan, Suruh, Pogalan, Gandusari, Kampak, Munjungan and Watulimo.
