The 1976 watchtower p 441 had this comment regarding setting our sights on certain dates; ' If anyone has been disappointed through not following this line of thought, he should now concentrate on adjusting his viewpoint , seeing that it was not the word of God that failed or deceived him and brought disappointment, but that his own understanding was based on wrong premises' . Was this an adequate apology, if it could even be termed an apology? All I will say is many JWs and others were stumbled. The reality is , there have been significantly more serious stumbling blocks than the 1975 fiasco. But does the fact that stumbling blocks have occurred . automatically disqualify an organization from being God's people? Jesus foretold such causes for stumbling would exist(Mathew 18:7) . Moreover, he foretold a time when these 'things that cause stumbling' would be weeded out 'from his kingdom'( Mathew 13:40-41). This is what I believe we can expect in the near future.
