1993: 5 of a total of 7 (72%) patients achieved total eradication of their cancer (R/R AML)

I think this result from 1993 needs to be highlighted:

• 5 out of 7 patients (72%) of patients achieved total eradication of their cancer (complete response) [1]

By my analysis of the referenced studies in the literature review, total eradication of cancer (complete response) was achieved for 51 patients during the trials conducted in the period from 1983 to 1993.

The below analysis provides more detail than the chart in the combo poster and table 1 in the literature review.




It is known that 2 children have survived since treatment with Bisantrene in 1984 and 1991 respectively.

In addition, 41 adults achieved complete remission (total eradication of their cancer). Since these trials were conducted in the 80's and early 90's, the average age of the patients is such that they would mostly not be alive today (if still alive would be elderly).

Of the later trials (since 1987) an average of 51% complete response (total eradication) was achieved (47 of 94 patients had their cancer eradicated). Noting as above in the latest trial total eradication of cancer was achieved for 72% of patients ( 5 out of 7 in the trial ).
