January 22 (SeeNews) - Swedish firm Seabased Industry AB said on Thursday that its pilot 1-MW wave power array on the west coast of Sweden is now feeding electricity to the Nordic grid.
The system, which is the first phase of the 10-MW Sotenaes demonstration project, has initiated power generation following the connection of the first buoys to the wave energy converters (WECs), the company said on its website.
Seabased completed the deployment of the first 36 WECs at the site in March 2015. The devices have capacities of 25 kW and 30 kW.
Seabased is financing the Sotenaes project with the help of Finnish group Fortum (HEL:FUM1V) and the Swedish Energy Agency. The entire project is worth some SEK 259 million (USD 30m/EUR 27.9m).
