I am in the metallurgical plant building business. To dry out a blast furnace or Corex plant it takes approx. 3 weeks. After such time you would then start feeding a plant.
Heating from 0 to 100 °C can go very fast, but afterwards you typically have a temperature gradient of 4-5 °C/h and after 200 °C of 2-3 °C/h. Everything depends of course on the type of refractory used.
As in a rotary kiln the temperatures required are lower (as mentioned above 650 °C and not e.g. at Corex 1000 °C) I would guess heating of the plant will take approx. 11 to 14 days.
