flyer69: the refractory lining of a rotary kiln is selfsupporting and normally fixed without any mortar; if any then the refractory bricks never are sticked to the steelmantle.
In our special case I assume that the lining is made from silica bricks and mortars/mastics for silica bricks have 95 to 95,5% silica, storage life is from 12month(RHI's Stellatect 150T 0-0,5) to unlimited(RHI's Stellamur GLS 0-0,3) because they are not reactive.
