I find it comical some people consider blending ore grades for processing has anything to do with profit manipulation.
Admittedly, I do not come from a background in gold. I have experience in the mining sector and I can assure you - blending stockpiles is common practice. Reasons are multiple and quite technically complex. It often revolves around the chemistry of the process (this is not iron ore guys!), condition of the plant, scheduled maintenance, etc.
Furthermore - can we pause to reflect on todays market; all wired for fast and hard returns. If this was true - then what kind of an management incentive structure allows such a profit crippling practice?
As part of my daily work, I am faced with the challenge of convincing managers sense behind processing strategies. Some learn, others resist. A reflection of the posts in this thread.
