The thing is is that everyone is "right" in this argument. You shouldn't be blasé about it's transmission, but people shouldn't act like their life is over either. The current reaction most people have is disproportionate to the event based on a stigma that was manufactured in the 70s by a drug company that was looking to market a treatment for a common ailment.
Now it's taken on a life of it's own. Should you avoid herpes? f*ing ay' you should. But if you're going to have sex with people at least be informed.
