It's funny. No matter how many videos or website keep saying "Glandular fever is herpes, oral cold sores are herpes, CMV is herpes" everyone still thinks that the word "herpes" -> genital herpes.

Actually, 90%+ of the worlds population carries some forms of herpes. Whether it be chicken pox, EBV, CMV, HSV-1 or HSV-2. They are all "herpes".

Worse still, 50-80%+ of the Australian population is seropositive for HSV-1, the virus that gives you cold sores. So what, I hear you say. Well, you can spread HSV-1 to the genitals and at that point the world considers it to be "genital herpes" when in fact, traditionally, HSV-2 was genital herpes. Nearly half of all new GH cases in developed countries are due to HSV-1. Why? One theory: Changing sexual habits. People engage less in intercourse and more in oral sex now as it's deemed the "safe(r) sex". But actually, it's not. Someone can never have any symptoms of HSV-1 (no could sores) and still be shedding the virus which they can then transmit sexually.
