Obviously not, because they were imprisoned before that decision to support the USA was made. But they will now be political swap bait and trade bait regardless of what happened and when. But I'm wondering why and how this happened? Why would anyone from here imagine it is safe to drive through Pakistan and then Iran? With no permit? How did they not know? And ignorance is not an excuse because they were internet savvy, i.e., they were bloggers.

Very very lucky, to be alive and imprisoned in notorious Evin Prison I'd say. Short term prognosis = grim with little chance of release this year. Best prospect? A lot of dedicated hard work and diplomatic tippy toeing on the quiet by our diplomats is their best prospect or maybe their only hope.
