my experience is that from the day an IPO lists on the ASX it takes a day or 2 for buyers to catch on , so if you can buy early on the 1st day you have a better chance of buying at a reasonable price - i bought 2 batches of Airtasker early on 1st day at $1.03 & $1.35 - the price was rising fast and was up to $1.75 the next day with strong buying but then dropped of as sellers arrived.

But every IPO is different - with some the price rockets on 1st/2nd day - so sometimes its better to wait a few days to let the price settle back . There is the risk you may miss out but thats part of the investing game.
