As an update this is my understanding and a reminder to behave and observe local laws in foreign ports.
Etihad's (the airline) excuse for not talking about the matter is that it is before the Abu Dhabi courts.
The airline has good reason to be secretive because there is a general commercial issue about an airline having a judicially-suspected country as its default destination. I would feel rather more confident being detained in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong
or even in Indonesia - where the punishment might be tough but at least justice is done in the open.
Snaith, again from my understanding, is still being held without charge and under Abu Dhabi law and can remain so indefinitely. It is a concern, Snaith aside, that an Australian citizen is being held without transparently being charged.
