If I listened to brokerage house recommendations on gold stocks I would be broke long ago.
The fake news about a takeover of DEG/GOR has been going on for 2-3 years and nothing ever happens ,this is because relative to peers they are expensive.
The reason that brokerage house recommendations are often wrong is because of an incestuous relationship between the recommended company and the brokerage house. If memory serves me correctly Bell Potter (and i may be wrong) participated in capital raising by DEG .This is of course quite lucrative for the brokerage house.
There was however an interesting piece of news on the wires yesterday ,in the early days GB girl(who I think is employed by one of these outfits) was hyping Goldfields as a potential suitor for GOR,the rest of gruyere or DEG.I also thought it might be a possibility that Goldfields would buy out GOR ,take the rest of Gruyere ,sell off the DEG stake and spit out the rump to the market ,it never happened due to price .However Goldfields ended up buying a much better priced Canadian high grade discovery Osisko .The grade was about 5-6 times DEG or gruyere and was more favorably priced.I owned Osisko at one time.Yesterday however Goldfields announced it was selling off a couple of its smaller mines I think to focus and perhaps to help finance the development of the Osisko deposit which will be highly profitable. There was no mention of selling its 50% of Gruyere but this is also not a core asset since they only own 50%.So MAYBE goldfields might sell half of Gruyere for the right price to focus on 100% owned. Osisko ,I have no evidence for this just like GB girl has never had any evidence for a takeover of DEG and/or GOR .So maybe GOR should sell its DEG stake and make an offer for 50% of Gruyere, better to have a bird in the hand than two in the bush.I dont know if GOR has the ability to run Gruyere ,just a thought however.
