General cause was not regulatory issues but problems with financing ,building the mine etc.BC is a much more friendly mining jurisdiction than Australia is these days ,sadly for Australia.
Gold road will receive paper (ie shares ) under the current takeover proposal for DEG .No cash involved.So they will become shareholders in the new entity .If they were smart(GOR) would sell at least some of thier DEG shares into the market so they get some cash out of the deal.
If the build out does not go to plan in terms of costs or time to production then the new entities share price will fall .Pretty obvious that DEG never had the financial or technical ability to build or operate such a complex plant so DEG management is to be congratulated for getting such a good price .
They have sold out for a price much higher than its actually worth so the share price (of the new entity )may not do well as they only have one big mine and two smaller ones ,one of which is in North America.the good news is despite all the difficulties the mine will now get built.
Zero chance of a bidding war ,price paid for DEG is extremely high .Agnico often mentioned as a potential suitor ,it has just made a bid for another exploration company in Canada close to their Quebec operations which is where there focus is ,not Australia.Just read the news releases from Agnico where’s its all documented in detail.
Shareholders of DEG including management have come out well as the offer price (albeit none cash but paper)is high .The sensible thing to do is sell out take the money and look for another miner to invest in or even Cryptos which are way outperforming gold and gold miners.
