Recall that WBC also suffererd a near terminal crisis in that period , due to over zealous off shore expanshion and allowing AGC to accrue massive property mortages etc .So we have come close, and agree, proberly have not fully learnt the lessons of the Mortage Backed Securities cricis. Are our banks too big to fail? who really knows and I hope that never gets tested . However the allure of higher returns brings higher risk taking. I have recently moved some assets into hybrids as a perceived risk off play but still the risk of counter party default is ever present no matter which way you turn.
