I think there is a concerted effort to stop the price from rising, and not necessarily for the purpose of accumulating (as is indicated by the distinct lack of volumes).

Just an assumption, but maybe an attempt to clear the stock of traders. This would be very aligned with a possible future takeover attemp but that is just pure speculation. Whatever th reason, the current depth is not a normal occurrence, its being manipulated for some reason or another.
