I'm certainly no expert on the matter, but I held NWS back in the day when they moved their domicile from Oz to the US. I believe their aussie shares were converted to CDI's, and I reckon they were still included in the indices, maybe on the ASX300. I haven't checked that they still are, so I may be mistaken?
The biggest hangup was completing the US foreign ownership forms for the first time to take advantage of the US/AU withholding tax treaty (reduces the amount of US tax withheld from foreign owners being paid interest or dividends - won't have to worry about that for a while). Once you completed it though, it's the same every year, so simples!!
