When I was a student I worked in a petrol station and did the accounts - everyone hated American Express - they charged 4% and paid 60-90 days. Then when I got a card myself retailers would do anything other than accept it. They even had a campaign asking cardholders to report a retailer who would not accept it, and they would send the boys around lol. Now they have lowered their merchant fees and I can buy anything down to a coffee without dramas and their take up is phenomenal - they put 'we support small business' signs up in shops. BNPL is growing and will do, but it will be very selective in view of the high fees required to feed the BNPL companies, whereas the big boys Am Ex, MC, etc have very deep pockets and big resources. Hence, pay attention to CS - underserved Americans are ZIPs target market - the pointy end, where they can charge high fees and get away with it, but the risks are commensurately high and the market has a cap on it
