It's a regulation that the RBA has power to introduce without legislation. The RBA has been talking about it for a long time and it sounds as though they are very close to introduction - they see it as favourable for the BNPL industry to continue, but don't want the unlevel playing field to continue, despite AFIA, the Industry Association representing 7 providers - Afterpay, Brighte, Humm, Klarna, Payright, Plenti and Zip Co - begging and pleading for the regulations to not be introduced until the industry is 'on its feet'. The RBA signalled that it is not listening when it said that the benefits of competition and transparency outweigh the needs of BNPL providers.
