I wonder when Doral will move in more agressively in SA....

Current and future production by Doral Mineral Sands is a significant contribution to Western Australia’s mineral sands industry, which is worth about $A910 million a year. By comparison, mineral sands production for the rest of Australia is worth about $105 million.

Australia’s total mineral sands exports are worth about $A746 million a year, a major contributor to Australia’s economy.

Doral Mineral Sands produces five products – ilmenite, Hiti, leucoxene, zircon and zirmix.

All have very important parts to play in the manufacture of things that simply make our lives better, a host of products we see and use every day, as well as having more strategic, high tech uses.

Ilmenite, HiTi and leucoxene are mainly used to make pure white, highly light refractive and ultra-violet light absorbing titanium dioxide (Ti02) pigment for use in protective house and car paints, paper, plastics, ink, rubber, textiles, cosmetics, sunscreens, leather and ceramics.

Because titanium dioxide is non-toxic and biologically inert it can be safely used in foodstuffs and pharmaceuticals.

Super strong, lightweight and corrosion resistant titanium metals are also used in the construction of aircraft, spacecraft and motor vehicles, and for medical implants.

Again, Its non-reactive properties make titanium one of the few materials the human body will not reject so it is widely used in such medical operations as hip replacements and the installation of heart pacemakers.

This super metal is also being increasingly used in the manufacture of strong, lightweight sports equipment, jewelry and other advanced engineering applications.

Zircon is mainly used as a raw material in making refractory bricks, furnace linings and in the ceramics industry, where its opacity and hardness gives a whiteness and durability to tiles, sanitaryware and tableware.

Zirconium chemicals are also used in the manufacture of advanced ceramics, television screens, coloured pigments, abrasives, antiperspirants and fire retardants in textiles.

Silica, a by-product of zirconia production, is used to make optic fibres used extensively in modern telecommunications, computers and the internet.

Other industrial applications include the making of castings for golf club heads.

A new blended product, zirmix, is used to produce low-grade zircon and is exported to East Asian countries.
