Some interesting developments bearing out previous posts I have made. Appointment of chief geologist and ongoing review of other gold opportunities is indicative of companies continued push into gold mining.

My guess is strategy is to pick up high grade offcasts from public companies and other private holdings that current owners can't (no money) or don't (too small) want to explore. Many larger companies come across lots of small stuff that are gems but are too small for them eg Avoca doesn't get out of bed for less than 100,000 oz. What do you do with a hot little property? Drop it in a company you have an interest in and drill.
