Not very far from our border is it?
That's where China & PNG have agreed to establish a joint fishery and "industrial park".
Just what has PNG got itself into here? Another Sri Lanka situation where, when the host nation couldn't keep up its agreed financial commitment, it had to surrender sovereignty to port facilities?
That's there problem, though it could be ours too.
What certainly will be our problem is invasion by Chinese fishing fleets as has happened in areas around the world. Conflict can certainly arise because Australian fishermen won't back off in the face of incursions into their fishing grounds.
On top of that, one wonders
what facilities China will install in this "industrial park". It will almost certainly include cyber spyware if not warfare capability.
I think we should be letting PNG know that we are concerned about these arrangements and may have to consider them as possibly hostile to our security.
