Forgot to mention index funds. A product like ishares IVV is great, it tracks the S&P 500 and charges a tiny fee. You can buy it on the ASX and they do all the conversions and hard work for you for something like 0.13% p.a. Vanguard has a good S&P 500 index fund as well.
