Fatstocks Leigh Creek in the Flinders Ranges about 5 hrs drive north of Adelaide is a large coal mine that supplies coal for the Port Augusta power station. I have been to the mine and and the grade of the coal is not great, someone at the mine described it to me as trying to burn dirt to make electricity. The ABC piece is how I first heard about FMS years ago. Where they are drilling is just south, 150 km or so, of Leigh Creek so I would imagine the coal would be of similar poor quality.
