Found this info on the flinders website...
"The Leigh Creek coalfield contains the best known economic deposits of black coal in South Australia. These are being mined by open-cut methods. The prominent Northwest Fault traverses the region of interest and lies to the west of the Leigh Creek coalfield and Tom Hill."

    "Leigh Creek Coalfield

Coal was discovered near Leigh Creek in 1888 during construction of a railway dam. Subsequent exploration has revealed five basins filled with Late Triassic to Early Jurassic sediments, positioned within a 20 kilometre long zone with a north-northwesterly trend. Due to the coal mining operations, which have been in progress since the mid 1940s, investigations for commodities other than coal have not been carried out."

The Flinders website seems to not discuss opportunities for Flinders in a coal resource/prospect. Reminds me a bit of the search for diamonds in the Solomon area without looking for the value in the iron-ore.

I couldn't see who owns the coal rights/ operation?
If it is poor quality, the fact it is still operating would seem to suggest it is still an economical resource, regardless of the quality?

The links below reminded me of the significant multi tenant options Flinders still has up its sleeve.
I wonder if there is any potential for Flinders with expanding exploration to include coal in SA?
