Interest rates in the US weren't reduced due to economic rationale, but more to do with the effect a slow down in credit/borrowing would have on the economy.
Long term this won't stop interest rates rising if inflation continues to increase. Both in the US and in Aus.
I would be very surprised to see interest rate cuts this year.
