Can team William's do it again?
Seville at $21 makes some appeal after showing he's recovered from a virus that struck him down before last year's Melbourne cup with maiden win, in a Group 1 nonetheless. He was VERY strong at the end of the race. Metrop winners don't have a good record in the big one but records are made to be broken.
Racing Victoria's chief handicapper Greg Carpenter has announced a 1kg Caulfield and Melbourne Cup penalty for Seville after the import's win in last Saturday’s Group I Metropolitan Handicap (2400m) at Randwick.
Seville notched his maiden Australian success in The Metropolitan Handicap, which also enabled the Macedon Lodge galloper to pass the first elimination clause of the Melbourne Cup ballot.
The penalty took Seville's Melbourne Cup weight to 54.5kg, leaving him 25th in the order of entry for the great race.
Seville is now one of five Lloyd Williams-owned horses inside the top 30 in line for a Melbourne Cup start.
Seville's penalty pushed his Caulfield Cup handicap to 55kg while the win sent him up to eighth in the order of entry for the October 19 event.
The penalty is the same as the three horses - Tawqeet, Railings and Hayai - to complete The Metropolitan Handicap and Caulfield Cup double.
Also, here's a replay of his second in last years Turnbull, behind a pretty handy horse! Bear in mind this was only his 5th race start and the Metrop win only his 9th!
