The cost to drill a well in BHP's prime Black Hawk venture in southern Texas is expected to fall to just $US2.5 million in the 2016 financial year, lower than the previous guidance of $US2.9 million, BHP said as it announced a 66 per cent drop in underlying earnings from its petroleum business.
