There are substantial differences between PNV and AHZ in terms of product. PNVs products can be used by almost any surgeon in many different circumstances. By contrast AHZs scaffold patch is marketed to cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons who require specialist teams and resources. AHZ ran expensive and costly wet labs and trials to market its products to specialists. AHZ has a much larger sales force and a correspondingly larger revenues. PNV had a sales force of 3 covering the whole USA and was content to grow with a small budget targeting just a small number of customers.

I actually thought that a tie up between AHZ and PNV whereby AHZ could have been the US distributor would have made a lot of economic sense for both companies. But it was destined not to happen.
