Research shows that Antiseptic Hand rubbing (hand sanitizers) is not nearly so effective as Antiseptic Hand Washing (running water).

The issue is around the dryness of the mucous. Hand washing is effective with both wet and dry mucous. Hand sanitizer is only any good on dry mucous.

Current thinking is that the virus is spread person to person, rather than object to person. That is if a person coughs or sneezes within the vicinity of another person. While it is possible to touch a surface and then bring your hand to the mouth to catch the disease this is not the main source of transmission.

I am not sure if people have really thought this through. "Oh I have just come within 6 feet of a person who coughed but using hand sanitizer will see me right"

I have seen no evidence that getting this current seasons flu shot will do anything to prevent being infected with Covid. For a start the Covid19 is not included in this years flu shot. I have seen no evidence to suggest that person inoculated with a flu shot has an improved immune system that would better fight of Covid infection.

You would probably be much better off offering a smoking cessation programme (to improve respiratory health) and encourage healthy eating / living so the immune system is not put under pressure.
