It was the mortality rate of people who were so sick they had to be admitted to hospital. So nothing to do with mortality rate of the virus. Surprised to see the Lancet has moved to click and bait journalism!
The only reliable mortality rate we have for the virus is based on ROW cases which we can trust as being more accurate than the numbers coming out of China. Currently 1/300, though I don't think most of those patients have recovered yet.
